Relief for QLD Small Business with New Grant

The Queensland Government has, on 19 May, announced brand new initiatives to supplement existing initiatives specifically tailored to small business during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the new Queensland Small Business COVID-19 Adaption Grant, small business can apply for up to $10,000 funding for support where impacted by COVID-19.

Snapshot

  • The grant is for up to a maximum of $10,000.
  • It aims to help small and micro businesses prepare for safe resumption of trade post COVID-19, transition to new ways (including embracing technology) of doing business and upskill and reskill business owners and staff, and create or retain employment.
  • The funding can be used towards financial, legal or other professional advice to support the small or micro business.
  • The grant can only be applied to costs for the approved purposes from 23 March 2020.
  • There is a budget allocation on this one of course! Once met, grants will be closed off so act quickly.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, the business must:

  • employ staff and have fewer than 20 employees at the time of applying for the grant.
  • have been subject to closure or otherwise highly impacted by current shutdown restrictions announced by the QLD Chief Health Officer on 23 March 2020.
  • demonstrate significant impact on business revenue over a minimum 1-month period.
  • have a valid Australian Business Number (ABN) active as at 23 March 2020, be registered for GST, with a principal base in Queensland.
  • have an annual turnover over $75,000 for the last financial year and a payroll of less than $1.3 million.
  • not be insolvent or have owners/directors that are an undischarged bankrupt.
